Canyon Country Seniors Ribbon Cutting
The grand opening of the Canyon Country Senior Affordable Housing facilities represents the second phase of the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging Corporation's strategic plan to bring vitally needed housing to the Valley. The third phase will be implemented in June 2004 with the opening of the Castaic Lakes Retirement Village. The affordable housing facilities developed by the SCVCOA in Saugus, Canyon Country, and Castaic will allow for the strategic delivery of services throughout the Valley for all seniors including the residents. These strategically located affordable housing facilities will also allow other elders in each vicinity of the Santa Clarita Valley to access the broadest spectrum of services in Los Angeles County.

Representatives of the City, Committee on Aging, Senior Center staff, government, and the Chamber of Commerce were part of the official ribbon cutting.

The official Grand Opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the new Canyon Country Seniors apartments at 18701 Flying Tiger Drive was held Thursday, March 18. The Committee on Aging was present including President Jeff Pollard (left), Mary Jane Hartman (Secretary), Gina G. MacDonald, Esq., Steve Cushing, and Jo Anne Darcy.

The City of Santa Clarita award was presented by COA board member and Mayor Emeritus Jo Anne Darcy. Jeff Pollard, left, and Brad Berens, Executive Director of the agency, accepted the award.

Senator Pete Knight’s representative, Patty Kelly, was on hand to offer congratulations from the senator.

Committee on Aging Past-President and Executive Committee Member, Don Kimball, introduced Jules Swimmer, and David Rose, our construction partners in the project.

The residents and guests of the first phase, who began moving into the complex in November, enjoyed the party, too!
